Draw A Person: Screening Procedure For Emotional Disturbance (DAP:SPED)

Jack A. Naglieri, Ph.D. , Timothy McNiesh, Ph.D. , Achilles N. Bardos, Ph.D.

The DAP:SPED utilizes children’s and adolescents’ drawings and evaluates them to help identify those ages 6 to 17 who might hav emotional difficulties and might require a further comprehensive psychological evaluation. Three drawings, one for a man, one for woman and one for self are evaluated against criteria/items which are based on an exhaustive review of the literature on human figure drawings. It yields a standard T score that determines if further assessment is not indicated, indicated, or strongly indicated, and may be conducted individually or in a group. The scoring/evaluation is fast using the easy to follow criteria. The DAP:SPED was normed on a nationwide representative sample of 2,260 students.
